Karen Retra

Senior Consultant

Karen has graduate qualifications in Public Relations and Sustainability and is experienced in working with local government in the region to develop and deliver community engagement projects across a range of topics including energy, waste, water and natural resources.

Karen’s roles and projects include coordinating and implementing education strategies relating to sustainability projects across the North East Victorian region involving issues such as litter, stormwater, water conservation and greenhouse gas emissions home, group convenor of the sustainability and energy efficiency for CSIRO’s Energymark program, Solar Ambassador for the Solar North East project, and Waste Education Officer with Cleanaway.

Benchmarking and reporting were important across all these projects, as was being able to find ways for the various councils to tailor their parts of the projects to their own resources and priorities. Karen has also developed and managed an important community sustainability website, ‘Ecoportal’ and in 2014 Karen was awarded the NSW Office of Environment and Heritage ‘Sustainability Champion’ Green Globe Award.
