Sustainability Buzzwords
|
Like any field, sustainability has a host of different terms, and for a while they seemed to be multiplying like rabbits. It can be overwhelming to people new to sustainability. The risk is not that they do not know them all well; that is often not necessary. The risk is they are not aware of the ones that best apply to their situation and how they interrelate. Story of Cap & Trade
|
With all the press surrounding Copenhagen, it's quite difficult to find anything very original to say... One item that caught our eye was the new 'Story of Stuff' short film, The Story of Cap & Trade.
If you've heard about cap and trade, but aren't sure how it works (or who benefits), this film explains many aspects pretty well. Climate Change Resilience
|
'Communication is the sharing of created meaning; Conversation is the creation of shared meaning'. EcoSTEPS Director Carole Young has been undertaking a fascinating social research project based on over 30 case study interviews with Blue Mountains residents. Christmas Reading
|
| Sustainable Insight is an online store with which EcoSTEPS is affiliated. It has a carefully selected and very wide range of books, DVDs and educational resources related to sustainability. Sustainable Insight is a great facility for individuals and organisations to source products and materials to guide and teach about how to live, work and think more sustainably. A good place for some last minute shopping.

End of Year Season's Greetings
|
It's the end of another extremely busy year for EcoSTEPS. We're pleased that our offerings as a Sustainability Partner have been so well received over the past few months. We have been delighted to welcome a number of talented people as new Consultants and Associates. A wide range of new projects have been undertaken across all sectors including:
- Large Corporates such as AAMI, Bovis Lend Lease, Australian Water Association & Melbourne Water;
- International & Regional Groups: Pacific Islands Forum Secretariat, International Society of Sustainability Professionals;
- Federal & State government agencies such as DEWHA, Lachlan and Central West Catchment Management Authorities;
- Local governments like Blacktown, Fairfield and Lithgow;
- Not-for-Profit organisations such as St Vincent & Mater Health Sydney and the Blue Mountains Footbeat Festival.
We look forward to working with these and other progressively more sustainable organisations as EcoSTEPS clients in 2010. Let's all continue to do what we can both personally and organisationally to see substantial progress towards sustainability in the year ahead.
